Painting Space Marines is Easy!

Consider that itch thoroughly scratched....

It's been a while...

I've been burned out by 40K and my beloved Orks lately (and life in general). So I took a break. Then that itch started to develop. You know that itch. The one that's in the back of your mind that makes you want to DO things, like spend ungodly amounts of money on overpriced plastic representations of little men in power armor. All of the cool shit that's coming from ForgeWorld lately has finally inspired me enough to put together a SPESH MEREEN!

But not any kind of Space Marine, no. A Flesh Tearer. Observe:

"But Catalog," you say. "In the Blood Angels Codex jump packs are overpriced compared to the break you get if you choose a dedicated transport."

"I've got it covered, hypothetical you," I reply. "Behold!"

"But how?" Hypothetical you looks stunned.

"I am the master of magnetism!"

I realize that's a long way to go for very little humor, but what did you expect?

All kitted out

Here's the Battlewagon with all of the included options thrown on: four gunners, a cannon, grabber claw, etc. They're all removable and can be configured in a variety of ways. So I think I'm just about done. I just need a few extra parts to make myself happy, most importantly a driver. Oh, and I'll have to build a Deff Rolla. :) I think I'll switch gears for a bit and get back to painting my Warbiker Boss...

Work continues on the BW...

Here's a couple of more pics of the WIP Battlewagon. I think I'm done with the parts that need to be cut and connected to accomodate the two kits put together, so I've started on some turrets and options. I'm hesitant to glue anything down at this point; even the main body of the wagon isn't glued down. I need to buy a couple of parts (for some reason there is no driver included for the wagon, and I know it will bug me if there isn't a driver), and then maybe I can finish assembling this damn thing.

Work commences on Supa-Battlewagon

Using the idea found on Bell of Lost Souls here, I have started work on my own Supa Battlewagon. I've spent about three hours on it so far (I had one of those "it's midnight already?" nights last night), and it's coming along pretty well. The only mistake I've made is that when I cut the two floor pieces and put them together, I left too much material inbetween them. But I can work around it (I hope so; I don't really have a choice anymore).

Tau-Tastic

Well the updates continue. Got the camo on. Not much but its there.
Got some weathering effects going on, and I made my engines GLOW.
Just have to finish the gun, drones, and hatch, and then magnetize the back hatch on then done.

Of course I will have to remember how to do this again for the other vehicles....lol

Lets try this again

Ok light coat of base put over the vehicle again.
from a distance looks ok, up close looks like a used tissue....but oh well.
highlight dark color of the camo scheme applied.
I REALLY need to thin out these paints but it looks ok for now.

So next step is to dry brush...perhaps and then SEAL IT.

After I seal it I will do my airbrush pigment weathering.
That way when I rub off the excess....I wont take the paint with it.

Digital Camo

Well my airbrush rocks.  Its a dual action internal mix, gravity feed, special right off of ebay.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to do the camo...and I have figured out that I need to do a REVERSE mask.  Cut out the shapes and then use the tape with the holes in it to make the shape.

Tricks of the trade are as follows
1) GET A NICE KNIFE AND CUT NICE LINES...no need to rush it (even though I do....sigh).
2) Make sure you PUSH DOWN THE TAPE TO MAKE IT FLAT....dont want over spray getting through.
3) lower the PSI of your compressor...to much paint and it runs.

I am by no means an expert and I still have a ways to go, but the first shapes of the lighter color are applied.
Still have lots to add from this color but I thought I would show a progress shot.

Tau Rebuild Base Coat applied

Well the boys have their base coat on.  I like going lighter to make weathering and inking easier. Once they are dry its time to start the digital camo effect...gulp.

Update Time...

First up, here's Harlie's finished Ork named PinkPantz...

And here's my completed Tankbusta Nob Sef, with Power Klaw, Bosspole/Tankbusta Bomb, cigar and his Coat of Many Tank-kills ('Eavy Armor):

A shot of the coat:

Two very different WIPs

First up, here's my still-early Tankbusta Nob. The rest of the squad is a bunch of rookies, but the Nob is a veteran, with several wrecked vehicles in his past. One of his proudest achievements was ripping open a Leman Russ of a Cadian tank regiment. In commemoration of this destructive event, he fashioned himself a cape made from the tracks of the tank and wears it to this very day. And with every successive tank kill, he adds another link or two to the cape. Here's Sef and his Coat of Many Tank-kills:

Here's a better look at the cape, which should be sufficient to count as heavy armor. As you can see from the weak attempt at fashioning an arm, my greenstuff-fu is still not strong. Still to come: an acceptable boss pole.

And here's a different WIP. This is perhaps the most well-painted ork I have ever seen, even though the pink pants are not a choice I would have made. I'm guessing that this is as far as Harlie will take her painting career, but please allow a proud papa to beam for a bit before crushing his spirits. :)

Toy Story 3

This should be the shortest post of all time. OF COURSE TOY STORY 3 IS AWESOME. I'm not sure it tops Toy Story 2 at this point, but then again I haven't watched it dozens of times like I have its predecessor.

I wouldn't dream of spoiling a thing about the plot. What I will say is that I was pleasantly surprised at some of the places this movie goes and how DARK some of those places are.

Big shock: I had tears streaming down my face a couple of times and at the end I came away satisfied and impressed that somehow the best streak in moviemaking improbably continues unabated. I'm beginning to think that Pixar couldn't make a bad movie if they tried.

Scrap

Here's the newest memba of the 'Bustas, named after (and slightly resembling) one of my favorite G.I. Joe figures of all time.

Tankbustas a-go-go

Another Tankbusta down. That makes five. Hmmm, might be time to find someone to lead this merry little band of misfits...

A "Special" Tankbusta?

Finished up this guy tonight. I tried to get a pic that would capture the "oi, where duz dis fing go" look on his face.

A Trio of Tankbustas

Built three more Tankbustas because the humidity has been a little high for spraypainting. Enjoy!
